And can any one explain to me what a "Praise and Worship Mass " is?
Thank you for the link - as you say, a very insructive post on the nature of the Mass.
I don't know what a "Praise and Worship Mass" (tautology, surely!)is - but I have a fair idea, and I rather suspect that neither of us would want to assist at one!
As I understand it a "Praise and Worship" Mass is a Charismatic Mass where Charismatic Catholics and Priest have a Mass together. Because Charismatics love Jesus intensly and are very joyful about their Faith it tends to have a lot of joyful hymns of praise and be generally noisier and more enthusiastic than the usual Mass. The condescension of many Catholics, like the comment above, has driven many of us from the Church to other denominations. I am one of the few that stayed. I love Jesus and I love the Mass and it breaks my heart to see the boredom and inattention I see in so many Massgoers. What is wrong with enthusiasm? To love is to be enthusiastic.
I too love Jesus (and His mother) intensely, and I am in no way gloomy about my faith! (Who's being condescending now?!)
The boredom and inattention you have experienced springs directly from the Novus Ordo Mass, and I'm afraid no amount of noise and enthusiasm will solve that problem.
Jonathon, I'm sorry if I sounded condescending, it was honestly more heartbreak at the lack of love and respect for the Blesed Sacrament than anything. And we WOULD agree on a lot of things. I too go to the Latin Mass on alternate Sundays (the only times it's offered} and I love, love, love it. Oddly enough the elderly priest who says it is a Charismatic too!
Don't worry, my comment was rather tongue-in-cheek - a "ha ha - gotcha!" sort of response. I should perhaps have added a 'winking' symbol ;-) to make that clear!
And you're right - we certainly agree about both the Blessed Sacrament (which was instrumental in my conversion) and the Latin Mass.
